SUMMARY:Toubkal 2027
DESCRIPTION:Adventure Summary\nThis seven-day experience combines the best of Morocco’s mountains and city life. The trek covers about forty-five to fifty kilometres in total\, with a cumulative ascent and descent of roughly 2\,800 meters. The highest point reached is the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4\,167 meters. The itinerary allows for a gradual acclimatisation while immersing you in Berber culture\, stunning valleys\, and the rugged beauty of the High Atlas. It’s a moderately challenging adventure that rewards you with breathtaking landscapes and authentic local encounters. \nItinerary\nDay 1: Explore Marrakech\nFly into the colourful city of Marrakech and settle into your traditional riad in the heart of the historic medina. Spend the day wandering through the bustling souks filled with spices\, crafts\, and vibrant textiles. Explore the unforgettable main square\, the Jemaa el-Fnaa\, where musicians\, storytellers\, and street food stalls create an ever-changing spectacle that has captivated visitors for centuries. End the day with a delicious Moroccan dinner in a local restaurant before resting up for the start of your mountain adventure. \nDay 2: Marrakech (466 m) to Imi Oughlad (1\,450 m) to Azzaden Valley (1\,800 m)\nAfter breakfast in Marrakech\, you drive for about one and a half hours south into the High Atlas Mountains\, reaching the small village of Imi Oughlad at 1\,450 meters. Here you meet your local guide and muleteers and begin your trek. The trail climbs gradually toward the Tizi n’Tacht Pass at 2\,000 meters\, offering wide views across the Imlil Valley and terraced hillsides. From the pass\, you descend through traditional Berber hamlets such as Aït Aïssa to reach the Azzaden Valley at around 1\,800 meters. The walk takes about four to five hours\, covering roughly ten to twelve kilometres. Overnight is spent in a simple guesthouse or gîte in Aït Aïssa or Tizi Oussem. \nDay 3: Azzaden Valley (1\,800 m) to Refuge Tazaghart (3\,000 m)\nToday\, you make a beautiful and more challenging ascent to one of the most iconic refuges in the High Atlas (Refuge Tazaghart) Depart from Azzaden Valley\, climbing steadily through Tizi Oussem before following a wilder and less-travelled route towards the upper valley. You pass through high alpine pastures\, rocky terraces\, and dramatic cliff scenery\, including views of the surrounding peaks such as Aguelzim and Tazaghart. This is a long ascent\, gaining over 1\,200 meters. The trail becomes steeper toward the end\, rewarding you with the stunning cirque where the stone-built Refuge Lépiney stands beneath towering rock faces. \nDay 4: Refuge Tazaghart (3\,000 m) Aguelzim Pass (3\,560 m) to Toubkal Refuge (3\,207 m)\nFrom Refuge Tazaghart\, climb toward the high and spectacular Aguelzim Pass (3\,560 m). The ascent is steep and rewarding\, offering expansive views over the Azzaden Valley and the surrounding peaks. After reaching the pass\, descend gradually toward the Toubkal Refuge area (3\,207 m). \nDay 5: Toubkal Refuge (3\,207 m) to Mount Toubkal Summit (4\,167 m) and return to Refuge\nYou begin the ascent of Mount Toubkal early in the morning. The route is steep and rocky but straightforward\, climbing steadily across scree slopes to the summit at 4\,167 meters — the highest point in North Africa. The climb takes around three to four hours\, gaining nearly 960 meters in altitude. From the summit\, you enjoy wide panoramic views across the High Atlas peaks and\, on clear days\, as far as the plains stretching toward the Sahara. You then descend carefully back to the refuge\, taking about two to three hours. Total walking time is six to seven hours. You spend a second night at the refuge. \nDay 6: Toubkal Refuge (3\,207 m) to Imlil (1\,740 m) to Marrakech (466 m)\nThe final trek begins with a long descent through the valley leading back to Imlil. You pass the white-domed shrine of Sidi Chamharouch at 2\,350 meters\, a small village and pilgrimage site beside a rushing stream. From there\, the path continues down through rocky terrain and cultivated terraces until you reach Imlil at 1\,740 meters. The descent takes about four to five hours and covers roughly ten kilometres\, with a loss of nearly 1\,500 meters in altitude. In Imlil\, you meet your driver for the return journey to Marrakech\, which takes around one and a half to two hours. Upon arrival\, check back into your riad and enjoy a relaxed evening in the city. \nDay 7: Time to Say Goodbye\nEnjoy a final Moroccan breakfast at your riad. Depending on your flight schedule\, you may have time to wander once more through the Medina and explore the souks before your transfer to the airport for your flight home. \nPrice and Details\nPrice: £850 per person \nIncluded:\nProfessional mountain guides\nSix nights accommodation (two nights in Marrakech and four nights in the mountains)\nAll meals during the mountain trek\nMules for luggage transport\nExperienced cook during the trek\nDrinking water in the mountains\nTransport from and to Marrakech to the start and end of the trek\nTransfers from Airport to the Riad and back\nTips for the guide\, mule team and cook \nNot included:\nMeals and drinks in Marrakech\nTravel insurance\nPersonal expenses \nDates:\n7th September – 13th September 2026 \nNext steps\nIf you’re interested in this trip please get in touch\nWe’ll need a £200 deposit to confirm your place.
